The Heim ins Reich (Home into the Empire; or Back to Reich) initiative was a policy pursued by Adolf Hitler starting in 1938 and was one of the factors leading to World War II. The initiative concept was to convince all of the ethnic German people that were living outside of the Third Reich that they should strive to bring these regions "home" into a Greater Germany. This includes both areas ceded after the Treaty of Versailles, as well as other areas containing significant German populations such as the Sudetenland.
